2024: A bad year for sustainability?

In a recent article published in the Harvard Business Review, Andrew Winston analyses global events in the area of sustainability in 2024. He comes to the conclusion that the year 2024 posed significant challenges for sustainability, including climate-related concerns and inequality. He analyses that the primary worries would include electoral and political instability jeopardising advancement, corporate withdrawal or reticence about DEI and ESG objectives, and the emergence of sustainability reporting, which is currently consuming corporate resources. Additional concerns from the previous year would include the clean economy reaching critical thresholds, the expansion of AI jeopardising decarbonisation efforts, notable advancements in heavy industry, and the initiation of measures against “greenwashing.”
