The UK Government has published new guidance on placing manufactured goods on the market in Great Britain as of 1 January 2021. As the United Kingdom has left the European Union on 31 January 2020, it will also leave the European Internal market after the so-called transition period ends (expected on 31 December 2020). The guidance informs manufacturers, distributors and importers on the new obligations following the end of the current transition period. The guidance covers the use of CE and UKCA markings, conformity assessments, legal responsibilities and the appointment of authorised persons or representatives in the United Kingdom.

The UK government encourages businesses to be ready for full implementation of the new UK regime as soon as possible after 1 January 2021. However, to allow businesses time to adjust, the UK government allows CE marked goods in scope of this guidance that also meet EU requirements to be placed on the GB market until 1 January 2022 where EU and UK requirements remain the same.
