GRP releases the ESG Index 2020: Switzerland remains at the top
Global Risk Profile (GRP), a Swiss company specializing in third-party risk management related services, has released the third edition of its ESG Index (ESGI), a measure of risks related to the environment, human rights and health & safety.
As in the second edition of the ESGI from 2019, Europe offers the best regional score (25.02), far ahead of South America (44.89), North America (45.91), Oceania (49.2), Asia (52.32) and Africa (66.35). Switzerland remains at the top of the ESGI ranking, followed by Finland and Luxembourg. Germany (6th rank), France (16th rank) and the United Kingdom (21st rank) experienced little changes in their respective positions according to the ESGI. The United States lost a few ranks in the environment sub-index (34th rank; 28th in 2019) due to its withdrawal from the Paris Agreement effective on 4 November 2020 but progressed in other dimensions, ensuring a general ESGI climb in 2020 (39th rank; 44th rank in 2019).
According to GRP, the ESGI measures issues related to three key areas: The Environment (30%), Human Rights (50%) and Health & Safety (20%). Based on a set of 44 variables, the ESGI’s third edition offers a risk score on a 0-100 range, where 0 represents the lowest risk and 100 the highest risk.
