Switzerland extends sanctions against Russia
On 12 December 2022, the EU had placed additional individuals and entities from Iran under sanctions in connection with Iran’s military support for Russia and its supply of drones to Russia. Furthermore, on 16 December, the EU had added another 141 individuals and 49 companies and entities to its sanctions list as part of its ninth sanctions package in light of the ongoing serious situation in Ukraine.
On 21 December 2022, the Federal Department of Economic Affairs and Energy (EAER), which is responsible for sanctions, extended the sanctions list concerning Russia. Switzerland thus adopted the changes that the EU had decided on in connection with the deliveries of Iranian drones to Russia joined these EU adjustments. According to the Federal Council’s press release, the amendments entered into force on 21 December 2022 at 6 p.m.
