Swiss Federal Council reports progress on competitiveness measures

On 21 October 2026, the Swiss Federal Council adopted a report on the implementation of its package of 60 measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the Swiss economy, introduced in November 2025. The package aims to reduce regulatory and administrative burdens on businesses and limit additional costs arising from new legislation.

According to the report, 16 measures have already been implemented and a further 39 are underway, meaning that more than 90% of the measures have either been completed or are being implemented. Five measures have not yet been implemented or have only been partially implemented.

Completed measures include longer inspection intervals in the aviation sector, simplified reporting requirements for climate compensation projects and exemptions from permit requirements for certain night-time and Sunday road-marking works.

Further measures under development include simplified imports of wood products from the EU, tax relief, digitalisation of administrative procedures and regulatory simplifications in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, data protection and waste management. Planned tax measures could benefit tens of thousands of businesses, including through simplified VAT reporting and reduced financial reporting obligations.

The Federal Council estimates that at least 20% of Swiss businesses could benefit from the package. Further regulatory reviews are underway under the Federal Act on the Relief of Businesses from Regulatory Costs, with additional simplification measures expected to be identified in the coming months.
