International standards increasingly emphasise the importance of accessible and effective grievance mechanisms for identifying adverse impacts and enabling remedy. Yet translating these principles into practice across complex international supply chains remains challenging.

In this interactive workshop, we will explore what it takes to make grievance mechanisms work in practice. Following a short introduction based on current research and international guidance, participants will work together on key implementation challenges, exchange experiences and good practices, and reflect on a research-based implementation model for effective grievance mechanisms in international supply chains.

Key Discussion Areas Include:

• How can grievance mechanisms be designed and implemented so that they actually work for the people they are intended to reach?
• How can grievance mechanisms be adapted to different local contexts (languages, cultures, literacy levels, technology, etc.)?
• What builds trust and encourages people to raise concerns?
• How should headquarters, local teams, suppliers and other intermediaries be involved?
• How can companies learn from grievances to improve their mechanisms and prevent similar issues from recurring?

The workshop aims to bridge research and practice by providing participants with an opportunity to share their experiences, jointly develop practical approaches, and generate actionable insights for their organizations.
