Federal Council wants to further restrict advertising for tobacco and nicotine
The new Tobacco Products Act, which came into force in October 2024, instituted a prohibition on sales to minors and imposed advertising limits on all tobacco products including e-cigarettes. However, the law requires amendment to enact the popular initiative “Children and Young People Without Tobacco Advertising”, which was approved by the people and the cantons in 2022.
Thus, the Federal Council has informed that it has initiated the consultation process over the proposed amendment of the Tobacco Products Ordinance. This amendment seeks to enhance advertising regulations. It enacts the amended Tobacco Products Act, which was approved by Parliament subsequent to the endorsement of the popular initiative. The new regulations are set to take effect at the start of 2027.
